Jesus Blesses the Children
Devotional Thought
In Mark 10:13–16, people were bringing little children to Jesus so He could touch and bless them. The disciples tried to stop them. To the disciples, the children seemed unimportant, too young, too small, too insignificant for the Teacher’s time.
But Jesus saw them differently.
He became upset and said, “Let the little children come to me. Do not hinder them.” Then He took the children in His arms, placed His hands on them, and blessed them.
In that culture, children did not have status or importance. Yet Jesus stopped everything to make room for them. He welcomed them. He embraced them. He declared that the kingdom of God belongs to such as these.
Jesus did not simply allow children to be near Him. He valued them. He did not brush them aside. He brought them close. He did not say they would matter someday. He showed that they matter now.
This passage is not only about children. It is also about us.
The kingdom of God belongs to those who come like children. Children trust easily. They depend fully. They believe simply. Jesus invites us to approach Him with that same kind of heart.
When we feel overlooked, small, or unimportant, this story reminds us that we are deeply significant to Jesus. He welcomes us. He embraces us. He blesses us.
He cares deeply for the youngest and the most vulnerable. And He calls us to care for them too.
Reflection Questions
Do I come to Jesus with trust and humility like a child?
Are there ways I might be unintentionally discouraging children or others from coming to Jesus?
How can I better show Jesus’ love to the youngest and most vulnerable around me?
Prayer
Jesus, thank You for welcoming children and showing us how valuable they are to You. Help us come to You with trusting hearts. Teach us to protect, value, and encourage the youngest and most vulnerable among us. Remind us that we are all Your children, loved, seen, and blessed. In Jesus' Name, Amen.
